I'm A Celebrity to use Kingswood as Jungle Stand-In

ITV’s I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, will move from its Australian Jungle setting to Royal Holloway's Kingswood hall of residence, 1 mile from the main campus, The Flounder can reveal. The Kingswood accommodation buildings were built in 1977 and were up for demolition, but will see a new lease of life thanks to the television channel.

Due to travel limitations resulting from the Coronavirus pandemic, the much-loved reality series which stars celebrities living and competing against each other to become King or Queen of the Jungle, will now take place at Royal Holloway’s remotest accommodation. Originally started as a social experiment inspired by the Danish model of sustainable student living, it has slowly transformed into a wilderness.

The television giant ITV struck a deal with Vice Chancellor Raul LesCelles after touring the venue last month. The programme’s producers were wildly impressed by the location’s credentials as a sweltering, isolated hellhole.

The accommodation on Cooper's Hill Lane was partly chosen for being well-equipped for bush tucker trials, thanks to its persistent infestation of silverfish. Another deciding factor was its poor standard of food and constant central heating - reminiscent of Soviet apartment blocks - providing the outrageous temperatures usually experienced in the show’s Australian setting.

Producer Sirius R. Scholl said: ‘It was pretty low on our list, but we thought we should check it out just in case… We couldn’t believe our eyes when we got there. Surrounded by trees. Horrible sleeping conditions. Insect infestations. Jackpot! We will have to get our health and safety team in to check it out… dependant on the outcome of the survey, all systems go!’.

Kingswood resident, Jagmeet Brahmbhatt, stated “I’m now officially homeless after being forced out of my room.

“I got chucked out by Sue Barker.”
